Hard Landscaping
What is Hard Landscaping? Quite simply it is sculpting the landscape with walls and patio areas to create functional spaces in which to enjoy outdoor living.
The greater use of the garden for entertaining and the ever increaing trend for outdoor cooking has lead to a greater demand for hard landscaped designs. Whether you are looking for a simple patio area on which to have your barbecue, or a full blown sunken area with full outdoor kitchen and perhaps a bar then we are the team to create this for you.
The lure of the outdoors is often complemented with a beautiful gazebo or a full blown Tiki hut in which to entertain whilst cooking a wonderful meal at your bespoke outdoor kitchen.
Hard landscaping designed and built professionally makes a wonderful addition to any home and truely turns your garden into a well designed living space.
Driveways
If you are lucky enough to have a driveway at your property, it is often the forgotten part of the garden, somewhere the cars park.
But a beautiful driveway is a statement.
The driveway is usually the first thing someone coming on to your property experiences. A well kept driveway instantly gives enhanced kerb appeal.
We offer many types of driveway finish, all tailored to suit your property
- Gravel: the simplist form of driveway and in the right place with the correct use of materials can look wonderful
- Tarmac: (Tarmacadam) extremely hard wearing, water resistant, great value for money
- Concrete: Imprinted concrete driveways are a popular way to replicate the appearance of block paving without the inherent installlation difficulties of block paving.
- Block Paving: An increasingly popular choice. Well installed there is very little to compete with a block paved driveway. The choice of colours and textures make it a designers dream
- Resin Bound: A porous option gaining greater popularity. Resin bound basically is attractive gravel bonded together with resin. Hard wearing and relatively low maintenance
Patios
A patio is often the focal point of a garden, commonly used as an area for social gatherings and cosy evenings spent outside.
Thanks to its versatility, a well designed patio can truely enhance your living experience.
Patios come in all shapes and sizes, the choice of covering is vast from gravel with the occassional slab laid to take a plant pot right through to beautiful Porcelain tiles.
Other popular choices are pressed concrete slabs and cobbles these now come in a multitude of colours and textures.
Natural stone, with beautiful variants of colours even fossils in the stone. Limestone, Sandstone, Granite all can be used to create beautiful unique patios.
And for the ultimate cool finish Marble tiles are the perfect finish especially around a pool area.
With a patio, treat it like another room, just that it is outside. Whatever type of patio you want remember it is the place you will probably spend most time on, while in your garden. Locate it in the position that gets plenty of sun, is sheltered from a breeze, then just sit back and enjoy.
Lawns Real and Artificial
Everyone loves the sight, smell and feel of a freshly mown lawn, we specialise in laying new lawns offering a full maintenance contract for the first 12 months to ensure the lawn has fully taken and grown as planned.
We either lay pre-grown turf lawns, or we will prepare and sow a brand new lawn with whatever type of grass is most suitable for your situation.
We have sown small urban lawns, right up to 800 sq metre mini football pitches. All lawns receive the same attention, from site drainage (if required), through to sowing using only the highest quality grass seed, from producers such as Barenburg (for all sports turf from golf to equestrian), for the domestic lawn we use only top quality guaranteed germination seed.
Whichever method you choose, we can guarantee a top quality lawn that you and your family will be proud of for many years to come.
When artificial grass first arrived in our gardens it was cheap tacky and not at all realistic.
Today we now have premium quality artificial grass, that is as soft as real grass, but much more durable and isn’t susceptible to heavy rain or drought. The bounce back technology of our grass is a feature ensuring your lawn always looks prestine with no unsightly footprints to mar its beauty.
We supply and install 4 types of artificial grass
- 30mm pile height giving that neat just cut look of a real lawn
- 35mm pile height giving the soft as real grass feel. The appearance is that of a real lawn a couple of days after being mown when all the grass blades have bounced back upright.
- 40mm pile height giving that deep luxurious feel of a beautiful luxuriant real lawn.
- 16mm golf and multipurpose sports grass. This is ideal for the golf enthusiast to create your own putting green, incorporate slopes and gradients to create a more realistic result, to help enhance your golf skills.
Take it to the higher level by creating a mini practise area with a fringe of 30mm grass to mimic the green fringe and for the ultimate practise area have a greenside bunker built using the very best of bunker sand all designed by a fully qualified greens keeper.
Decking Timber and Composite
A well designed and constructed deck is a thing of beauty. Somewhere you can relax unwind and watch the world go by.
A poorly designed deck is a hazard and something which detracts from the value of your home.
Mainstream decking comes in 2 types
- Traditional timber
- Composite
What is considered a simple addition to your home is complicated and confusing when deciding which materials to use.
Traditionally decking in the UK has been SW (Softwood) grooved boards. These are relatively cheap and easy to work with. However they are really high maintenance most people will have experienced how slippy decking boards can become if not regularly maintained. Softwood decking is also prone to rot if not regularly treated.
If we look at the decking materials used in North America and Scandanavia we see the wide use of Hardwood decking boards.
Hardwood decking comes from slower growing trees like Oak, Teak and Mahogany, these are far rarer and therefore are usually the most expensive decking option. Hardwoods can pay off though; not only are they very aesthetically pleasing but they usually last longer than softwood and require much less maintenance.
A well maintained hardwood deck as well as looking beautiful can pay of in the long run with some decks lasting well in excess of 50 years.
Composite decking has come a long way since it was first introduced, the simplist question to ask when deciding between timber and composite is “how much time you think you can allocate, to looking after and maintaining your decking?”
Composite decking requires very little maintenance, apart from basic cleaning, removal of stains and regular brushing.
Modern composite decking is both attractive and functional and with prices coming down is often the best choice for the homeowner.
Like any construction what you see is only as good as what holds it up. In the case of a deck it will either be pressure treated timber or galvanised steel.
Both products are superb if installed properly.
- A well constructed deck subframe must have adequate foundations all our deck sub-frames rest upon supports concreted into the ground.
- All uprights must be plumb and of a material strong enough to support the anticipated loading on the deck e.g. under a hot tub requires additional support.
- All support beams must be of a depth and thickness to span the distance between supports whilst maintaining the ability to support the anticipated loading, just like a house timbers of a certain size are needed to span an open space in this case the distance between upright supports.
- Adequate interim bridging between joists to ensure uniformity of spacing and structural integrity.
If a deck has a properly constructed subframe it will last for many years if regularly maintained.
Add to this beautiful handrails and steps and you have the deck of your dreams.
Fences & Gates Timber & Composite
We are all familiar with wooden fencing (Timber). Used for centuries as the material to provide property boundaries it has been sawn, shaped and bent into the shapes we are so common with today in the fences of most gardens.
Fencing comes in various styles pre-fabricated panels. closeboard, venetian, and post and rail.
Posts for your fencing come in timber or pre-cast concrete. (image opposite shows fence panels in concrete channel posts with pre=cast concrete kick boards)
Timber fencing has the aesthetic appeal of natural wood giving the classic look that can enhance the overall appeal of any property.
Timber fencing requires regular maintenance such as staining or painting to maintain its classic appearance for many years.
As well as installing new fences and gates our joiners regularly make repairs to existing fences often from storm damage.
Composite fencing has come a long way from the plain boards available 10 years ago, today we have design, colour and texture that enhances any garden.
Composite fencing is a modern fencing material made from a combination of wood fibres and plastic. The plastic element is often recycled meaning a desirable durable low maintenance alternative to traditional wooden fencing.
Composite fencing is designed to mimic the look of wood while providing enhanced resistance to weathering, rot, and insect damage.
The longevity of composite fencing and the range of beautiful designs and finishes has dramtically raised the popularity of this material in fencing.
Composite fencing can last for many years, it doesn’t require painting, staining or sealing and comes with guarantees of 20 years or more depending on the manufacturer.
This along with its Eco-friendly credentials makes Composite Fencing an environmentally conscious choice.
Walls (Including Retaining Walls)
Garden walls are structures typically made of materials like brick, stone and timber, that enclose or define a garden space.
They serve both practical and aesthetic purposes offering privacy, security and visual appeal to outdoor areas. Walls can also be used to create different levels within a garden to create terraces or secret spaces.
The use of materials like railway sleepers (re-claimed or new) to define planted arears or the edge of pathways hve brough many a garden to life with texture and colour.
Whather you are looking a new brick garden wall or a raised bed we have the trades people available to make that beautiful wall of your dreams a reality.
Retaining walls are strutures designed to retain soil or other materials, preventing them from collapsing or eroding especially on slopes.
Retaining walls can create flat areas on sloped land (terracing), making it possible to build structures, secret gardens, or pathways.
Retaining walls can help manage surface water runoff, preventing flooding and water damage.
Retaining walls are constructed of many materials, concrete block, Gabion cages filled with rocks, pre-cast concrete systems.
By using various thicknesses of wall as the height of the soil behind rises stability can be maintained. To hold these slopes back concrete firms have developed structural systems to hold back even the steepest of slopes.
If you have a slope you want terraced we have the expertise to sort it for you.
